Purchasing A Stair Chair Lift? Here Are A Few Tips To Keep In Mind

Posted in Stair Lifts on June 1st, 2010 by Peter Hanson – Be the first to comment

When it comes to prices regarding chair lifts for stairs their is a wide range of difference among brands. The prices fluctuate due to several reasons. A few of those reasons include the type or brand of stair lift you are interested in, as well as the shape and style of stairs you already have got in your residence.

Prices of chair lifts for stairs will likely vary depending on if one will receive some type of monetary assistance from the government or other. In addition, several choose to go with a used or renovated model compared to a brand new stairway lift. After a little bit of careful research it is safe to say that investing above $2,500 will be common for a basic straight stairway lift. On the other hand, anticipate shelling out in excess of $10,000 should you have curved stairways and you are having the lift installed by a specialist.

This can be a big decision which is why you should carefully shop around and compare manufacturer price ranges. Once again from my research it is a complicated purchase decision because most manufacturers aren’t always willing to give you a price estimate on the phone. You will find a few obvious reasons for this. First, they must evaluate your needs to consider what stairway lift may be best suited for you. Second, they have to determine the size and shape of your stairs together with deciding whether or not they’ll do the unit installation.

If I were to offer top tips on how to deal with this situation, it would be this: Attempt to get the vendor to provide you with a “ballpark” range based upon your needs and situation. If they are unable to supply you this number, then simply move on to the next company.

One of the very best ways to try to decrease your stair lift cost is to find and purchase a used or refurbished one. Some of the best places to look are by asking the manufacturers themselves, classified listings, as well as auction sites like Ebay.com. If, however, you decide to follow this path then negotiating a warranty with your purchase is highly encouraged. By doing this you may get some security of your chair lift for stairs purchase if for some reason something happens to it.

Another option you may want to consider is renting a stair lift. This may very well be a fantastic choice if your manufacturer will support this option. So, by now you may be all anxious because these things are pricey. However, research has told me that these companies are flexible on how you finance your purchase. Some options may be by refinancing your property or several other loan arrangements.

It is unfortunate, but I’ve not found many agencies or subsidies that grant funding for such a purchase. However, it does not hurt to ask your insurance company if they cover some of the cost of a chair lift for stairs.

Getting A Stair Chair Lift Was A Great Decision

Posted in Stair Chair Lift on May 30th, 2010 by Kevin Strobel – Be the first to comment

We all know what a stair chair lift is so I won’t bore you with some innocuous details about how they operate. Rather, I would like to recount a story about my grandmother who was suffering from mobility issues and how we had struggled between our love and loyalty with the obvious monetary considerations about purchasing the stair chair.

My grandmother was born in the early 1900′s in a small town in Italy. At an early age she became stricken with polio , which left her with a severe limp. As she grew older the limp had become increasingly worse, getting to the point where she could no longer make her way up the stairs very easily. She was living in an old brownstone in Brooklyn, New York and if you have ever been in one of these homes you know how steep and narrow the steps can be. She was a tough Italian woman that refused to admit she couldn’t do something but this was becoming too much to overcome.

We had a difficult decision to make about her future and what would be best for her. A nursing home was out of the question and moving was also not an option. The church she attended everyday was right next door and being a devotedly religious person she couldn’t bear the thought of not being able to go to church everyday. We made the decision to have a stair chair lift installed so she could remain in the place that made her the happiest.

After doing some research and seeing what the price of the stair chair lifts were we had a big decision to make. On a limited income my grandmother had no way of paying for this herself. The old brownstone had weird shaped steps and the stair chair lift would have to be customized to fit her needs. This obviously increased the price and caused a fair amount of discussion among all of us.

In the end the decision was made to pay whatever it took to see that my grandmother remained in the home she loved. She was able to live out the rest of her life in this home and I can still remember the look of happiness on her face when we told her she didn’t have to leave.

That stair chair made all the difference to an old woman who wanted to stay in her home. Money took a backseat to the things that are really important in your life, like seeing an old woman cry with tears of joy. What would you do faced with the same decision?

Improve Your Quality Of Life With A Mobility Scooter

Posted in Disability Equipment on May 26th, 2010 by Admin – Be the first to comment

There are many people who have mobility problems. These problems can be caused by a disability, an accident or simply aging, and can make simple tasks more difficult, not to mention getting around. Fortunately, there are options for anyone struggling with this issue, and the primary one is through the use of a mobility scooter. Mobility scooters are a safe, efficient and affordable way to get around and are being used by more people now than ever. Thanks to increases in technology, electric scooters are more accessible than in recent years due to the cost.

There are a few important factors to consider when looking at mobility scooters. Comfort and durability are obviously key, but there are other things to think about such as the rechargeable battery, price, size and whether a 3 or 4 wheel scooter is right for you. Because the needs of people vary greatly, so the designs of electric scooters. It is always a good idea to research a number of models, to avoid using a scooter that isn’t sufficient in some areas.

Comfort is vital in a scooter. Because you are likely to spend a lot of time on it, the chair should be made out of a durable material that is firm and supportive yet soft at the same time, to avoid any discomfort. The frame of the scooter itself and foot platform are usually made of an alloy or molded plastic which is perfectly suited to its use, and should never need repairs or maintenance.

The battery is very important, as it can mean the difference between arriving home safely or being stranded in the middle of a road. The standard mobility scooter battery is a 12 volt that carries anywhere from 12-97 amp/hours, depending on the periods of use. These vary in price from $30-$300 so there is quite a difference, as determining which battery is right for you can greatly alter the running cost of your scooter.

There are a number of ways to pay for scooters, as many companies offer finance packages and insurance can also cover the cost, sometimes in total. Check with your insurance company before purchasing, as it could save you a lot of money.

Finally, there are many reviews online for every type of scooter available and these can be very helpful in your decision-making process.

Separating Dyslexia Facts From Fiction – How To Know What To Believe

Posted in Chair Lift For Stairs on March 30th, 2010 by Admin – Be the first to comment

When you first start to try to understand dyslexia, it may be hard to separate the dyslexia facts from fiction.  There are many misconceptions about what dyslexia is, what causes it, how it is diagnosed, and the tools available to help you overcome it.  Let’s try to sort some of this out.

One common misunderstanding about people who suffer from dyslexia is that they are slow, or unable to learn.  This is simply not true.  Many who have dyslexia are intelligent people who have no problem learning.  They just have to have the information presented to them in a different way than what is normally taught. It is often thought that smart people cannot have dyslexia, but many brilliant and famous people have or had dyslexia.  Among them, George Patton, John Irving, Albert Einstein, and Charles Schwab.
Dyslexia is more prevalent in low income groups or people from cultural or environmentally disadvantaged groups.  The dyslexia fact is that income, culture, environment or minority status have little or no impact on where you will find cases of dyslexia.
People who suffer from dyslexia see words and letters backwards or in reverse.  While dyslexics often can’t identify the correct names or labels for letters or words, there is no evidence that they actually see the letters or words in reverse.  It is also not true that people who write words or letters in reverse are showing symptoms of dyslexia.  In the early stages of learning how to write, it is common for both dyslexics an non-dyslexics to write words and letters backwards.  Dyslexics don’t necessarily have problems copying letters, only naming them correctly.
More boys than girls have dyslexia.  The dyslexia fact here is that while boys are more often diagnosed with dyslexia, the disability occurs equally in girls.
Dyslexia can be outgrown, or there is no treatment.  The truth is that studies show that the disability persists into adulthood in children who have dyslexia.  While many of them do go on to read accurately, it is not automatic for them and they continue to read slowly.  There are also many treatments or more appropriately many ways to teach or train dyslexics to help them overcome their disability.  Phonological training is one example and children who receive this training as early as 5 or 6 can have significantly fewer problems in later years.

As you can see, many of the things you may have thought were dyslexia facts have been disproved.  There is still a lot to learn about this disability.  For example it is thought that it is an inherited condition, but there is also evidence that it can be caused by head trauma.

I hope this article has helped clear up some of the myths about dyslexia and presented some dyslexia facts to help in your understanding and knowledge of this learning disability.

Can You Buy a Two Person Stair Lift?

Thе аnѕwеr tο thе title іѕ ‘NO’. Sіnсе thе stair lift operates οn a track along whісh іt runs, іt іѕ limited tο thе consequence іt саn carry аt аnу one time. Therefore, fοr safety reasons, οnƖу one person ѕhουƖԁ υѕе thе stair lift аt аnу one time.

Physically Challenged People

Posted in Chair Lift For Stairs on March 3rd, 2010 by Admin – Be the first to comment

PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PEOPLE

A lot has been written about disability, and probably a lot more will be written. Some has been written by the

disabled people or by their relatives. But there has been not that much information apart from medico’s, or people within a certain social group and scientists  looking for causes/cures and how they can be prevented.

Until quite recently disabled people were socially isolated. Whether their condition was physical,

emotional or mental, all met the same attitudes. Whether one carried a stick, or were in a wheelchair all were looked upon as being perhaps somewhat limited mentally and were hardly likely to be invited to a social  gathering.

However, thanks to the scientists, medico’s and dedicated educationists, social attitudes have changed somewhat, since hidden abilities of the disabled have been brought to the fore making their lives more comfortable.

However, as regards attitudes the present situation does not yet  reach the hundred per cent mark. There always have and probably always will be some who cannot come to terms with the imperfect and disfunctional human body and will shy away or ignore them altogether. The reason for this lies with those people themselves.

Thus society and the disabled themselves must pull together to integrate and make the climate of acceptability aa

normal as possible. People are encouraged to use different terminology eg. A person who uses a wheelchair, carries a walking stick, walks with a frame may be called ‘physically challenged,’ while those with emotional or mental afflictions are ‘intellectually challenged.’

Those hearing or using such terminology, may develop a more accepting attitude and come to find that

many disabled people have capabilities, needs, wants and feelings like anyone else.

Nowdays there is more access to information mainly through TV, the Intertnet, books and papers enabling disabled people to show their talents and abilities.  The fact that they are now included by the media, puts them into the real world with their able bodied counterparts. This surely engenders more knowledge that having a disabilty is by no means a separation from everyday life.

The most important agenda is now dependant on scientific research to find preventative causes/cures for such

physical conditions as Cerebral palsy, Downe’s Syndrome, blindness, etc. besides the emotional/mental

disorders such as Bipolar, acute depression and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Time will tell which and how many disabilities can be prevented or even cured.  For the sake of families,

however loving and patient they may be with their afflicted offspring it is hoped that much suffering and stress can

be eleviated once and for all.
